The Concept of a Person's Information Culture: View from Russia

Abstract : R&D Institution of Information Technologies of Social Sphere within the Kemerovo State University of Culture and Arts has been conducting long-term research of information culture for different categories of learners: schoolchildren, students, and teachers. The article reveals the following problems: why do we need a concept of information culture besides of information literacy concept? What is the essence of the offered concept and what theoretical research does it basically rely on? How is the concept of information culture dealt with in practice in educational institutions and libraries of Russia? Within the offered concept the model of the course”Principles of a Person's Information Culture” was developed.
