SMART TOURISM DESTINATIONS: BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS, NETWORK VISUALIZATION, AND QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to perform a bibliometric analysis of the theme "Smart Tourism Destinations." It is a quantitative analysis of the performance of scientific publications related to this theme. This method measures two critical components: the quantity of scientific production and the influence of these publications on the scientific progress of the subject. Of the 371 papers resulting from the analysis performed, it can be seen that the paper "Smart tourism: foundations and developments," published by Gretzel, Sigala, Xiang, & Koo (2015), has 777 citations about three times more than the second paper with 267 citations also published in 2015. The article will reflect the existing relationships in the literature using an analysis of co-citation, co-occurrence of words, and bibliographic linkage. Beyond the quantitative analysis, our contribution also performs a qualitative content analysis of 15 articles referenced with 100 or more citations using an original grid.
