Syndrome d'Elpenor et sérendipité. Deux nouveaux paramètres pour l'analyse de la navigation hypermédia

Abstract : After a short recall of hypertext navigation problems, we propose a state of the art of two major phenomenons : cognitive overload and disorientation. We then propose two original approaches aiming to characterize and to analyse those phenomenons more precisely. The Elpenor syndrom (incomplete awakening) will be used to describe the topographical amnesia that occurs in the user's mind at a given time during a navigation session. Serendipity will be defined with two antagonist modalities : we define a "structural" and an "associative" serendipity and illustrate our arguments with four possible navigation trails in the context of information retrieval.
