L'accès à l'information en ligne : Moteurs, dispositifs et médiations

Abstract : Access to information has always required mediations. With digital technologies and the internet, some have become invisible, others are transforming and new ones emerge. The development of commercial engines went together with routine practices of online search. This book analyzes the evolution of scientific research on access to information and associated devices. In past thirty years, scientific research was first focused on the technological performance (in computer science and engineering) and user performance (in cognitive approaches). Several theoretical models have been proposed. Studies of information practices in situ showed some of their limitations. By focusing on the way by which commercial search engines operate, the author pays attention to an aspect often overlooked: the dimension of media of such dispositifs. Access to online information calls for a paradigm shift to put informational acting and associated sociality at the heart of reflections.
