Corpus pour l'étude de la violence verbale : problèmes méthodologiques et éthiques et apport de l'interdisciplinarité

Abstract : We will focus here on the collection and analysis of corpora aimed at understanding and analyzing verbal violence. In a second step, we will develop this question more specifically from the point of view of interdisciplinarity and multimodality, taking for example an experiment carried out on the reception of verbal violence in a hospital environment, in association with doctors 1. L 'one of the questions at stake in the corpus collection reporting on "verbal violence" concerns the ethical position of researchers. It is indeed difficult to collect this type of corpus insofar as it mostly comes from a spontaneous, unprepared utterance. This fact raises a number of questions: can we, ethically, seek to provoke negative emotions aimed at the production of verbally violent statements in others for the benefits of research? Is it enough to record interactions after the fact to account for them? Can we use and build corpora from films or literature to do this? To what extent are the corpuses resulting from televised-live debates? Registered? Would they be more valid than others? The methodological and ethical difficulty that we wish to address here is that which exists in research in Language Sciences when we wish to study linguistic, linguistic phenomena, which generally occur spontaneously and unexpectedly, including the production of violence. verbal is here only an example. The second question, which is indirectly linked to the first, concerns interdisciplinarity and the conditions and possibilities of a multimodal study thanks to the confrontation with other methodologies, practices, research habits in other fields. In the case of the research presented above, we crossed Language Sciences with the medical field to study the reception of verbal violence. Can we avoid bias when we want to study the expression of negative emotions in humans? By what bypasses? What paths? Methodological and ethical issues: working on verbal abuse
