Abstract : The paper analyses the status of the interface in hypermedia. It is based on an exploration of pieces of digital literature of the 80's. A notion of "internal interface" is proposed. It shows the technological conception of the authors. The paper analyses situations where meaning and behaviour enter in conflict in reader's mind. It explains a fundamental strategy of writing, the Spiral Development of the Model Reader that has modified the perception of the relationship between the public and the technology in digital literature in the 80's.
